My term as Senior Class President of the Class of 2019 was an honor and quite the experience. I knew right off the bat my goal was to make sure my peers had a senior year they could enjoy, and not worry too much about the cost.
What some may not know, is that there are students in the Medford High Complex who have more than one job in order to support their families. Students who have it tough and cannot afford what some of us take for granted every day. It would be an absolute shame to not see them participating in senior activities due to costs.
For this - we brought prom tickets down to $85. This was due to how well the Class of 2019 fund raised over the last four years Included was a red carpet entrance, unlimited drinks, a photo booth, a varsity buffet, an ice cream bar, and a night worth remembering at the Burlington Marriott.
The next day after prom is the breakfast, which is free to every senior. For the breakfast we were able to support local business Jim's Market.
A couple days later was the barbecue, again free to students and we were again able to support local business Carroll's Restaurant. Students who showed up received three raffle tickets to enter for a chance to win an assortment of prizes. That day one student went home with a new chromebook, one a mini fridge for their dorm, another new bedsheets and laundry basket - and the other prizes included gift cards, a wireless printer, TV monitor, and so much more. This was due to our advisers efforts who went out and got it all, with the money our class was able to raise.
When it came time for graduation, nothing made me happier than seeing the students who told themselves everyday that they were a failure and would never graduate: walk by me accepting their diploma.
It was an honor and a privilege to have this position, and I hope I (along with the other officers and advisers) were able to make Medford kids' senior year: absolutely enjoyable.
